Washington, D.C.–Bad slumlord!  The corporate owner of this building (1331 Alabama Ave. SE) has been forced to improve things.  The feral cat living in the building is the best exterminator they’ve got, according to the article.  The apartment complex surrounds Congress Heights Metro Station (which opened in 2001), so it won’t be standing long.  “The Bethesda-based real estate firm plans to redevelop the site into more than 200 apartments, on top of office and retail space.”

A couple miles away stands a nearly new 12-story apartment building, Overlook at Oxon Run, with gated entry.  Here’s the view from below on Valley St.  The complex, which is income restricted, is right across from Oxon Run Park.  (FYI, a 1BR apt. rents for $950/mo.)
